Upon occasion I become aware of significant information that I believe should be shared with others. I recently read an article (university study) on the increased risk of bone cancer in large/ giant breed dogs when neutered or spayed before one year. The reason this study is so important is that according to Dr Stephen Ettinger (Board Certified Internist, Cardiologist, author of veterinary text books) osteosarcoma is the currently the number one cause of death in giant breed dogs. How valuable to know that something as simple as delaying neuter/ spay surgery can help reduce the risk! Puppy owners may want to print out a copy of this study to give to their vet before they schedule an appointment to neuter/ spay their young dog.
